Assalamualaikum and good morning guys,

Next Saturday is CodeKnights Round 19. Which mean, very soon, I will not have enough finger on my hands and feet to count the number of rounds we had. When you think about it, its been more than 9 months since we started CodeKnights! How time flies. Because of this, we are now making a new website specially for CodeKnights.

CodeKnights new domain:

https://codeknights.org

So check it out. Its a bit plain for now, but new things will starts to pop up soon. We are still going to use our old contest system. Those things are too complex to be built in a short time. However, for registration, we are no longer using the old google forms. And that also means that the old registration is no longer valid. Which means you will need to re-register again using the new website. If you don’t register, you can’t participate on the next round. The good thing is, you can now change your username or password whenever you like.

The creation of the new website is to help us manage and improve CodeKnights. When you have this much rounds, certain things are getting quite unwieldy. Getting the rankings from previous round can be a chore or even impossible. Some people registered twice (or even thrice?) to change their username and password. Some people specified their university name using acronym, some do not, some uses acronym with small letter. Sometimes we forgot to announce a round and sometimes we don’t remember which round is it. We have about 145 registrations (not counting the previous DSA students), but not even a quarter of that is participating. Even, the question “when was round 15?” is a hard question to answer.

In fact, I’m sure you guys have your fair share of criticism. And it would be very helpful if you could voice it out in the comment sections below. We take all feedback constructively.

So that’s all folks! Thank you for reading. Good bye and Assalamualaikum.

Code Knights Round 4 Results and Problem Analysis

Update: Announcement for round 5 is out.

Assalamualaikum everyone,

Last Saturday 8 PM (as usual), Code Knights Round 4 was held at… online. This time, we have 17 contestant including several new participant from UM, UTAR, UKM and others. lim2481284, the winner of the last 2 round seems to have lost his edge, finishing at the 14th place. He is probably busy and have other stuff to do.   Meanwhile, shahril, the consistent second-finisher did not participate this time, breaking his consistent-second-place record from the first round and leaving HarshRalph to represent UiTM. The winner for this round goes to a newcomer, foreveralone from UM. He is a newcomer in a sense that he just registered in Code Knights, but not in the sense that he is new in competitive programming. Interestingly joscmw95 actually solved all problem first, but he submitted more wrong submission than foreveralone, resulting in an extra 13 minute penalty compared to foreveralone (each score point is approximately 1 minutes).

Who in the world is capayam? Tell him if we don’t get his phone number, we will ban him.

As you can see in the scoreboard, all problem was solved. Unfortunately, no single question was solved by everyone. Three participant managed to solve all 5 problems. All of these three participant are new participant. The difficulty of the problems this time seems to be more towards the easy side, but then again, if foreveralone, joscmw95 and UncleWong did not participate, (remember, they were new participant) no one would solve all 5 problems… except for lim2481284 or shahril (if they actually participate). In terms of balance, we probably need to work on making the difficulty ‘spread out’ more. Additionally, there were some issues with problem C and D.

The problemset can be downloaded through the link above. As usual, for IIUM student, the problems can also be accessed from the IIUM ICPC Team codeforces group. Now, if only they would actually practice, that would be great…. On to the problem analysis!

Code Knights Round 3 Result and Problem Analysis

Salaam everyone,

Last Saturday night, the Code Knights Round 3 was held at 8:00 pm on 16th July and lasted for 4 hours. This time the round had 5 problems to solve and a bit tougher than the previous ones (Round 1 & Round 2).

finalScore
Congratulation to lim2481284 and all participants. Everyone managed to solve at least 1 problem

Needless to say, the participants did well.  The winner of this round is lim2481284 from uniten university who managed to solve 3 problems. Shahril from uitm managed also to solve 3 problems as well, both of them solved A, B and C. However, Shahril was not as fast as lim2481284 and therefore scored the second place. StdLn solved 2 problems, interesting enough he is the only one who solved problem E. It is also interesting to see Foinni who haven’t solved any problem before the freezing of the scoreboard, yet he managed to solve 2 problems in the last hour of the contest rendering him in the fifth place.

Update: Because of Ramadhan, the time for the first round is delayed by 2 hour.
Update: Announcement for round 3 is here.

Assalamualaikum everyone, Ramadhan Mubarak.

We are having a little project, lets call it Code Knights (to be clear, Amjad picked the name 😀 ). As the next ACM ICPC National is drawing closer, we are going to host an online competitive programming round every two weeks for practice and educational purpose. At first, the problems would be easy but later on, the rounds may have topics such Binary Search, Graph or Dynamic Programming. To make it even more competitive, the rounds is open to all student from all Malaysian (public or private) university. Although the original purpose of this rounds is for ACM ICPC practice, you are welcomed to join regardless if you will participate in the next ACM ICPC National or not. Its a good way to hone your programming skill. You would be surprised by how many programmer can’t actually program (see Why Can’t Programmers Program.). Maybe its you… 😯

The difference between this project and other competitive programming platform such as CodeForces and TopCoder is that, it is tuned for Malaysian student. Most of the competitive programming platform out there is too hard for most student. Additionally, their timing is not very suitable in Malaysia (1AM in the morning?). Code Knights aims to helps with this problem. However, it is not a full platform as we don’t have the resource to make one. It will be conducted much like the last IIUM Code Jam which is online through our modified Contest Management System (CMS). As always, C, C++ and Java is supported, but bear in mind that the system does not play well with Java. We will try to use Java 8, but who knows what will happen.

For the first round, the problem author is me, Amjad, Zarir and Ayesha. You will be facing 4 Adhoc problem to be solved within 4 hours. Adhoc means that you don’t need any specific algorithm to solve the problems. The scoring system is an approximate of the standard ACM ICPC rules. The details of the round is as follows:

Date: 25th June 2016
Time: 8 PM to 12 AM. 10PM to 2 AM.
Venue: Online (Link will be given later)
Registration fees: * FREE *
Registration link: http://goo.gl/forms/VJFvSmekoH2Uox203

To join, fill up the Google Form above. We will send reminders and the contest link through email. For any inquiry, you can comment down below or email me at asdacap@gmail.com. The registration link above is for all rounds. That means you don’t need to register again for the next round.

The stage is set, the sword is drawn. One student from all Malaysia will hold the title as the first

“Code Knights Champion”

Will it be you?

ps: Calm down, its just a simple round.
